Recently, Standup Comedian Munawar Faruqui has been arrested due to the allegations of hurting religious sentiments. The 29-year-old Munawar Faruqui arrested with five other comedians in Indore on January 2, 2021. Currently, he is in Indore Jail and now another update appears regarding this case. As per current information, he will remain in jail but authorities are yet to receive official communication from a UP Court on the stay of his production warrant by the Supreme Court of India. In this regard, Jail officials said that they continue trying to reach out to the Uttar Pradesh court to seek official communication and process his release.
“As per the jail manual, a stay on a certain production warrant has to be communicated to the jail authorities by the same court which had issued the production warrant in the first place, which in Munawar’s case is yet to happen.”
According to the jail authorities, the apex court will have to inform the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Prayagraj of the stay on the production warrant against Munawar Faruqui. The CJM, Prayagraj will send an official letter to the Indore jail superintendent, who proceed with a further procedure to facilitate Faruqui’s release.
On Friday, February 5, 2021, the Supreme Granted ad-interim bail to Faruqui and issued notice to Madhya Pradesh police in a case registered against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
“We issue notice in both the petitions and stay the Judgment of the High Court. The petitioner is released on ad-interim bail on conditions to the satisfaction of the trial court. In the meantime, there shall be a stay of the production warrants as well,” the bench ordered. Currently, Faruqui has been in Indore Jail for more than a month. Earlier, his bail denied by the court three-time
